DAY USE LOCKERS IN A PUBLIC LIBRARY
Securing personal belongings and protecting special collections
As this major urban library underwent a complete interior renovation, staff wanted to improve public access to the expanded special collections area while limiting the risk of lost or damaged collection items. They decided that prohibiting food and drink, bags, and backpacks would help protect collections, and they wanted to provide secure temporary storage for prohibited items near the special collections area.
They wanted lockers that would be durable, secure, ADA-compliant, and integrated with the building’s new interior design.
Durable steel locker frames are encased in custom wood doors and surrounds.
The design team chose Spacesaver’s sturdy steel locker frame encased in custom wooden doors and surrounds. They opted for two banks of two-tiered lockers in “is
land” configurations, which provide convenient work surfaces in addition to functional storage. They also wanted to avoid is sues that can arise with lost keys, so they chose a keypad lock with an integrated, easy-to-use handle.
Spacesaver provided shelving throughout the newly renovated library, so the de
sign team appreciated the opportunity to simplify the procurement process by purchasing lockers from the same manufacturer as the shelving.
